In de straat van mijn appartement was een afhaalchinees die in het weekend laat open bleef. Na een avondje uit met mijn vrienden, kwam ik meestal thuis, uitgehongerd omdat ik niet veel at tijdens het uitgaan. Daarom kenden de jongens die de Chinees runden mijn stem als ik mijn bestelling doorgaf.<\/p>\n<p>Een van de specialiteiten van deze winkel was Garnalen Lo Mein. Malse garnalen, gemengd met smaakvolle noedels, knapperige groenten en de perfecte saus. Ik heb die Lo Mein een tijdje minstens een keer per week gegeten. Helaas ben ik uiteindelijk verhuisd. Toen ik een paar jaar later de oude buurt bezocht, was de Chinees weg.<\/p>\n<p>Hiermee begon mijn zelfgemaakte Garnalen Lo Mein reis. Het is snel klaar, heeft een vergelijkbare textuur als authentieke lo mein noedels, en kan voor veel andere pastagerechten worden gebruikt.<\/p>\n<p>De nootachtige geur en smaak van sesamolie is eigen aan lo mein en vele andere Aziatische gerechten. Kies een kwaliteitsolie en bewaar deze in een donkere kast om bederf te voorkomen. De olie blijft 6 tot 8 maanden vers.
